Moving to a new property may produce a lot of stress for everyone involved even the packers, and removalist. It might also be time consuming, a lot of hard work and stressful but it doesn’t always have to be that way. Here’s a list of everything you need to keep in mind months before the moving day.

Having a removalist or not is one question that comes to everyone’s mind when talking about moving. Here are things that you need to consider when thinking about hiring a removalist or not.

The first thing you need to consider is the amount of work moving can be. If you hire a removalist, you will have lesser work. Especially if we talk about the heavy and hard parts that include loading up and unloading on the new house. Plus, they will also help if you want things to be arrange in specific ways that you would like. Professional removalists will also ensure the safety and quality of the items they touch thus saving you time. These reasons also ensure that you are going to avoid personal injuries that might happen such as dislocation of arms, possible wounds or even bruising which might happen due to accidents.

Second, the amount of time you will be spending on loading and unloading your belongings. Having the help of removalists also help save some of your time which means you can allocate that time to finish the necessary paperwork required when moving. They will be arranging everything from loading your belongings up to helping you arrange all of it when it reaches the new property. And on top of that, they can do it faster, and arrange them in a very neat and safe arrangement while loading thus really ensuring that the quality of everything remains the same before loading and after arriving the new property. All of this this also means that you will not be driving a big truck that is full of your stuff on high traffic and sometimes narrow streets and you might even face bumpy roads as well.

The third thing you need to consider is the stress and hassle it may bring. When moving, you have a lot of things to do at once. Paperwork alone can cause you much stress and time so, to lessen the stress and hassle of loading and unloading, just hire removalists. Not only can they help you with loading and unloading, some can also help in packing all your belongings if you have the extra cash.

The fourth thing you need to think about is everything that you will be doing by yourself if you do not hire a removalist. You will be packing and  loading (which means lifting every stuff you have even the heaviest ones that your strength cannot carry). You will also need to rent a truck and drive up to your new place. After that, you still have to unload, unpack and re arrange everything to your liking which may drain you for days.

The fifth and final thing to consider is if you have the amount of money and are you willing to pay no matter how big it is? I think this part can be solved if you look at the amount of belongings you have. If you don’t have a lot and you think that you can do it while finishing paperwork within a certain amount of time, then I suggest that you do it by yourself as it may help you save some money but, if you have a lot and you think at may consume a lot of your time leading to unnecessary stress and hassle, then just go hire a removalist. The key factor that can help you decide is the fact that you need to weight out the pros and cons that it can give you by considering everything you have, including time, money and belongings.

When packing, you really need to consider even the boxes that you have. Avoid using worn out boxes as they would tear easier which might end up giving you more tasks if they tear while you are lifting them. Make sure to find sturdy boxes that are cheap so that you could still reuse them without spending much.

Weeks Before Moving Day

According to experts, you should start packing 4-6 weeks before the moving day to finish. There are a lot of things that you should do when before moving such as what to pack and what to pack first. You also need to declutter and consider what is useful for you or not. Then you also have to find ways to dispose of them as well such as throwing, selling or giving away. But before all of that, you need to calculate your budget for the cost of moving day and buying new stuff and on top of all of that, you also finish paperwork needed for moving, create a floorplan of where everything needs to go and a lot more and the hard part is, you need to do it all at once. So plan everything out, especially your schedules for everything.

During Moving Day

During moving day, or the days leading to moving day, you will have a hard time preparing meals,so you definitely need to plan it ahead. One option I can suggest is opting to have meals that are easy to cook, or maybe ready-to-eat foods like canned goods. You should also have a separated bundle of clothes that you will wear throughout those last days. I suggest this because I strongly believe that you should leave the last days for double checking. Try to finish packing  everything a week before if you can.

After Arriving

You also need to set plans for when you arrive. You should have a structured plan for everything to avoid hassle in the long run. Upon arriving make sure that you’re floorplan is ready so that everything goes smoothly. Manage the movers on where to put everything. Check all your belongings as well and if something is missing, notify them immediately. Also check the locks, water, electricity and do some round checking around the property to ensure everything is the way you want it to be.

Packing by Weight, Label each box by room and by its contents, Pack a box of essentials, Pack like items together, Refrain from filling boxes to the brim,  Pack heavy and light items in the same box with lighter things on top. Pack things such as books in medium-sized boxes rather than jumbo boxes so they’re easy to carry.

When packing, you shouldn’t jump from one part of the house to the other without finishing that area first. To avoid confusion, always try to finish one room at a time that way, you would not lose some belongings due to misplacement. You will also know which rooms certain boxes will go after.

Important Stuff on Moving Day

When moving out make sure that necessary stuff that you need or might need for the first days or week should be separated as well. You can load it on your car instead of putting it on the truck or giving it to the removalist so that you can use it. This will include fresh clothes, easy to prepare or ready-to-eat meals that you and your family could consume while travelling or while on breaks from unloading, first aid kit and also hygiene kit as well. Staying fresh and clean should not be neglected even on busy days such as moving day.

Passport, Important Certificates and Documents

Important documents such as birth certificates, land title, passports, property title and etc as well as money, identification cards and the likes should always be kept separate from everything that you pack. These very important documents should be with you all the time during the process of moving because they are hard to replace when lost or people might use your identity if they get their hands on these important belongings.

On the day of moving or after, make sure that you updated your details on every place, website or thing that needs your address. Make sure that your mailing and billing address are updated as well to avoid any bad thing that might happen. Make sure that legal documents that require your address are updated. Pay outstanding bills, disconnect and connect utilities and lastly, make sure that there are no deliveries of any kind for you on the day that you move out. If this was expected, make sure that you are still there when they arrive, cancel it or have them redirect your mail if possible.

Moving to a new house will be stressful and time consuming and it will make you sweat by a lot. On top of that, it will cost you money, maybe even larger than what you intended and all of these might get you frustrated, angry, and dissatisfied but always remember that everyone involved are people as well and they have feelings. At the end of the day, you are all trying to get everything done at a small amount of time so don’t ever forget to be nice, be patient and be kind. Try preparing meals for your movers, leaving a welcome note to the next owners of the house and don’t forget to bid farewell to your neighbours especially those that are close to you and your family because even the littlest kind of gesture will impact so many people who are facing varying troubles in life.
